Ogenyi Onazi Signs Contract Extension

Nigerian international Ogenyi Eddy Onazi, Monday, has penned a two-year contract extension that would see him earn more at Lazio.

Onazi moved to Italy from a local club, My People FC, in Nigeria, and his new contract with the Serie A club will see him remain at the side until 2018.

The scrupulous midfielder took to twitter to express his delight, and appreciate necessary parties.

“I say a big thank you to God, my family, my team and my fans as I sign an extension to my contract,” Onazi tweeted.

Incumbent president of the International Federation of Association Football (FIFA), Sepp Blatter, Monday confirmed he will stand for re-election as Fifa president next year.

The 78-year-old Blatter, who hails from Switzerland, was first elected as FIFA president in 1998; and has contributed immensely to the growth of world football.

"Giwa Get Out Of NFF Seat"


Nigeria's House of Representatives on Thursday ordered the controversially elected president of the Nigerian Football Association, Chris Giwa, to quit the offices of the football federation as soon as possible, SuperSport reports.

Giwa, who is the owner of a Glo Premier League club Giwa FC, was factionally elected as the NFF president - some few days after former president, Aminu Maigari, and  some of his executives were arrested by the State Security Service.

UEFA President Not Interested in Blatter's Position

UEFA president, Michel Platini, has revealed that he will not be running for the Fifa presidency during next year's election.

Platini has heavily criticised Sepp Blatter on more than one occasion, also stating that the Swiss was "finished"; hence, no longer the right man to lead Fifa.

Newly recruited Real Madrid star, James Rodriguez, has revealed how he “dreamt” of signing for the Spanish club his whole life; and stated that he is now anxious to start winning trophies at the Santiago Bernabeu.

James, who scooped the 2014 FIFA World Cup Golden Boot, joined Santiago Bernabeu from Monaco for €80 million earlier this week.

Speaking to the media, James says he is planning a lengthy and trophy-laden career at the Spanish capital.

Pele backs Luis Suarez sanction

 

Footballing legend Pele has backed FIFA's stance on its decision to ban Luis Suarez from all football-related activity for four month, following his biting Italy defender Giorgio Chiellini on June 24.

The ruling, which also saw Suarez banned from nine international matches and fined 65,000 pounds, has been described as "too harsh", including Argentina legend Diego Maradona questioning the severity of the punishment.

But with an appeal in process, Pele believes the governing body was well within its rights to make an example of Suarez - in order to prevent a repetition of such

Luis Suárez suspended for nine matches and banned for four months

FIFA has banned Luis Suárez from all “football-related activities” for four months - after the Liverpool striker bit Italy’s Giorgio Chiellini during the World Cup group stage play offs between the Azzurris and Uruguay.

This biting incident, the third in which Suárez has been involved, has led Fifa’s disciplinary committee to prevent the player from entering any football stadium during the ban.

Victor Valdes to Miss World Cup


Barcelona first choice goalkeeper, Victor Valdes, has been ruled out of the upcoming FIFA World Cup in Brazil - after being ruled out of action for seven months, following a knee injury.

The Spain international has been in good form for the Catalans this season, but he suffered a cruciate ligament injury after a routine save in a La Liga game against Celta Vigo.

And after he was operated upon, the Club website has confirmed that the prolific shot-stopper will be out for approximately seven months - and as a result, would miss the World Cup.
