The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board could not conduct the
Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination in Maiduguri, Borno State - due to the absence of candidates.
Jamb registrar, Prof. Dibu Ojerinde, disclosed this to journalists on Saturday while monitoring the Saturday’s examination.
He said, “JAMB candidates who are supposed to go to Maiduguri to write their exams have decided to stay at home. There are about 400 of them. We have told them we will cater for them. They are afraid of what will happen to them.”
Ojerinde said the affected candidates will sit for Computer Based Test instead of the Paper Pencil Test that they applied for which held on Saturday.
Prior to the exam, there were reports which claimed that some candidates for JAMB UTME were among those who were attacked in Maiduduri recently - but the Permanent Secretary Ministry of Education, John Nwaobiala, debunked the reports.
He said, “There were some challenges that came up and the feeling was that since there were disturbances in that area, it might affect students’ movement.
“The CBT is coming up so they will have the opportunity to write the exam. There will be no disenfranchisement of candidates.”
Meanwhile, candidates who opted for the CBT are advised to reprint their slips as details such as exam centres, exam dates and centre numbers have been updated by the organization.

Everybody wants University place
The Joint Admission Matriculation Board, JAMB, has decided that
candidates in the 2014 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examinations,
UTME, would compulsorily register only one university, one polytechnic,
one college of education and one innovative enterprise institute.
"From
our experience, universities refuse to take students who make them a
second choice. Last year, vice chancellors of universities, rectors or
polytechnics decided that students should only pick one university, one
polytechnic, one college of education and one innovative enterprise
institute when applying to write the UTME. If they do not follow these instructions, they cannot apply," explained Prof. Dibu Ojerinde, JAMB
Registrar.
