2014 World Cup: I have faith in Africa - Gervinho

Cote d'ivoire international Gervinho has stated that he believes Ghana, Ivory Coast, Nigeria and the other African representatives will succeed at this term's World Cup.

The AS Roma winger is optimistic that the African representatives will survive the group stages and confirm the emergence of African football; thereby making name for Africa.

“We the African players are footballers as well as others,” Gervinho told ATS.

“We all operate in the same championships worldwide. Others are more deserving than us. In Africa, we just have problems with organization and infrastructure. Apart from that we have the same intelligence and the same skills.”

“This World Cup should be an opportunity to confirm the emergence of African football. I have faith in the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon, the Black Stars of Ghana, the Desert Foxes of Algeria, the Super Eagles of Nigeria, I have faith in Africa,” the former Arsenal star stressed.

“In any case, the Elephants of Cote d'Ivoire which I play for, I can assure you that we will fight to the end.”
Meanwhile, only Cameroon, Senegal and Ghana have reached the quarter-finals of the prestigious World Cup tournament.

The Elephants cruised past Japan by 2-1 in the first match of the Group C game.
