GEJ: Boko Haram war is worse than Nigerian civil war

Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan, on Wednesday, insisted that the ongoing war against Boko Haram insurgency in the North-East is worse than the Nigerian civil war.

President Jonathan bemoaned that whereas the battle line was drawn in the case of the civil war as the enemies were known, the war on terror is complicated because of the fact that the enemies are faceless and within.

However, the president says he is confident that the "faceless" enemies would not achieve their goals, especially because of the prayers of the faithful.

Terrorism: Governor Issa Timamy of Lamu district arrested

According to Thursday reports, Kenyan police force have arrested governor Issa Timamy of the coastal Lamu district for alleged connection with three recent massacres in which over 60 people were killed.

The governor, who was arrested on Wednesday, is believed to be connected with the killings which occurred during two consecutive nights in the town of Mpeketoni and a nearby village last week.

Despite an immediate claim of responsibility from the terrorist group Al - Shabab for the Mpeketoni attack, President Uhuru Kenyatta blamed “local political networks” along with an “opportunist network of other criminal gangs”.

Ozil must force 'magic' World Cup moment, says Ballack

Former Germany midfielder, Michael Ballack, has called for Mesut Ozil to do more to influence games and create magic moments at the World Cup tournament in Brazil.

Germany won their opening group game 4-0 against Portugal - but Ozil was unable to make it onto the score sheet or put his name to any assists.

Hence, Ballack made it clear that his comments should be seen as constructive rather than negative, as it is meant to stir the best from the Arsenal creative midfielder.

Freed Sudanese Christian woman rearrested

A Sudanese woman whose death sentence for refusing to renounce her Christian faith was revoked has been rearrested, her legal team told CNN Tuesday.

Meriam Ibrahim, 27, and her husband, Daniel Wani, were arrested Tuesday at an airport in Sudan's capital as they were trying to leave the African country, Ibrahim's legal team said.

Fresh Abduction: 60 women and girls reportedly kidnapped

According to some locals and security sources in Bornu state, at least 60 women and girls have been reportedly abducted in a Borno village by gunmen suspected to be members of Boko Haram.

The abduction, which was said to have been carried out on Saturday, supposedly took place in a village called Kummabza, a farming community not more than 25km away from Lassa town in Askira-Uba local government area of Borno State. But it was not made public until Monday when members of the local vigilante broke the news to journalists in Maiduguri, Borno State capital.

British Prime Minister says UK must help Nigeria defeat Insurgency

David Cameron has warned the UK that he crisis in Nigeria, Iraq and Somalia must not be dismissed as "nothing to do with us" as the same Islamic jihadists are also planning to attack the UK.

The prime minister said the terrorist insurgence in Iraq, as well as related problems in Somalia, Nigeria and Mali, would "come back and hit Britain at home" if they did not help stabilise these regimes.

David Cameron: Islamic extremists, like fascists, must not be tolerated at any level

British Prime Minister, David Cameron, has clearly pointed that Islamic extremism, like fascism, will not be tolerated in the United Kingdom - as he did stress that defeating Islamic extremism in Britain is as vital as dealing with the economy.

The Prime Minister strongly backed the views of Michael Gove, the education secretary, who said that the  Government must win the argument with those who want tolerate all but the most violent extremists.

 

Mr Gove has criticised the Home Office for failing to do enough to deal with the roots of extremism. Mr Gove said the Government should "drain the swamp" of extremism instead of "beating back the crocodiles" of terror down the line. 

Al-Shabaab slaughters at least 50 in Kenya

According to RT News reports, at least 50 people have been slaughtered during and police station, banks, restaurants, government offices and hotels were razed to the ground - as dozens of Somalia extremists besieged a small Kenyan coastal town for hours.

Gunmen with covered faced reportedly threw explosives in the local police station before entering and stealing several weapons. The extent of the damage is wide-ranging as major news agencies in Kenya have also reported two hotels, banks, restaurants and government offices being decimated in the attacks.

Terrorism: Ijaw congress urges Military to expose Boko Haram collaborators

The Ijaw National Congress has called on the military authorities to expose those aiding the activities of the Boko Haram.

The group noted that the war against terrorism would only be won with focus and a high level of patriotism among the Nigerian soldiers.

Spokesman of the INC, Mr. Victor Borubo, has told Punch that Nigerian soldiers would have rescued the abducted Chibok girls if it had purged itself of Boko Haram collaborators.

Pride is one of those behavioural traits which should cause us, on a daily basis, to pray to God for help. Pride is a natural product of the sin nature and every human being is born with it. So, we are all born with a potential for pride. You can never be promoted beyond the reach of pride. The reality is that the higher you go, the closer the proximity between you and pride (1 Timothy 3:6). The quality God wants us to have is that of humility. Humility is having a correct estimation of yourself in the light of the knowledge of God.

Overestimation of yourself is pride; underestimation of yourself is stupidity. Humility does not mean that you are the dregs of the earth or a nonentity. When Christ died for you on the cross, He gave you a new identity (Galatians 2:20). Philipians 4:13 states "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me". If you then say, "I can do all things" that is pride. Conversely, bringing in Christ and trusting Him to help you, gives you the correct estimation of yourself.

There are two main benefits of being humble. One, God finds it easy to interact with a humble person. That is why God resists the proud and gives His Grace to the humble. When it comes to prayer, meditation in the Word or His giving revelation, God has big issues with a proud person. The person who has reverence for God, honours and values God and what He has to say, is the one who God relates with (Isaiah 66:2).
If God finds it easy to hang around you, you are blessed because He is the ultimate helper (Luke 18:9-14). Pride takes us out of God's presence whilst humility creates an atmosphere that attracts God into our lives.

Pakistan: Security forces kill all terrorists, clear Karachi airport

Pakistan Army and security forces killed all the terrorists and cleared Karachi's Jinnah International Airport on Monday morning after several hours of fierce gunbattle. The final operation to neutralise a few holed up terrorists was launched by the Pakistan Rangers headed by an Army General.

According to Geo News at least 28 people including 10 terrorists had been killed during the shootout in the night. Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan has already claimed responsibility for the attack on Karachi's Jinnah International Airport on Sunday night.

A Pakistan Army spokesman said the entire airport had been cleared and all the terrorists killed. According to the Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) Director General Major General Asim Saleem Bajwa the terrorists "were confined to two areas and eliminated" by the security forces. The attack started at around 11:30 IST and the gunbattle continued through the intervening night of June 8 and 9.

How Misdiagnosis OfCancer Led To Dora Akunyili’s Death - TheCable

 

When Mrs Dora Nkem Akunyili was the Zonal Secretary (South-east) of the Petroleum (Special) Trust Fund in 1998, Nigerian doctors gave her what many of her family members considered to be a health scare. They said she had a growth and needed surgery.

Akunyili, then 44, decided to travel to the United States, first to get a second opinion and then undergo the prescribed surgery. The bill for the medical trip was $17,000, including $12,000 for the surgery.

During pre-surgery check-up in the US, the doctors told her the Nigerian doctors had made a wrong diagnosis and that she did not need any surgery. It was said to be a minor issue that medication would solve.
She thanked the doctors and, to their surprise, said she was going to return the money meant for the surgery to PTF. That was strange. Nigerian government officials had devised a way of making sure such monies were not returned to the treasury. Continue...

Kenya: U.S. embassy beefs up security amid terror threat

The Marine stood behind a camouflaged sandbag bunker atop the U.S. Embassy in Nairobi and scanned the horizon with binoculars.

What he saw was a busy street that officials fear is full of targets for an attack by al-Qaida-linked militants because diplomatic missions are in the neighborhood.

More than 15 years after al-Qaida destroyed the U.S. Embassy in Nairobi with a massive truck bomb that killed more than 200 people, fear is rising that U.S. diplomatic personnel and property could again be targeted. Armed Marines are now stationed on the embassy's roof, one indication of recent security upgrades.

Intelligence has been circulating in the region the last two months that American interests are the next intended target for al-Shabab, an al-Qaida linked group in Somalia responsible for last year's attack on Nairobi's Westgate Mall, said a Kenyan police official who insisted on anonymity to talk about security matters.

The terror group has also shown interest in attacking the U.S. military base in Djibouti, just north of Somalia, and there were indications that the U.S. Embassy in Ethiopia was being considered as a target last year, said Matt Bryden, the former head of the United Nations Monitoring Group on Somalia and Eritrea and a top expert on al-Shabab.

Ambassador Robert Godec last week told some 400 Americans at a town hall meeting: "We know that there's a threat, and we know it's serious." Diplomats have indicated that global terrorists affiliated with al-Qaida are moving in to the region.

Breaking News: Dora Akunyili dies at 59

 

Family sources have reportedly disclosed to Sahara Reporters that former Director General of the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control and ex minister of Information, Professor Dora Akunyili, is dead.

She passed away at the age of 59 at an Indian Hospital - where she has been receiving treatment for an undisclosed ailment.

 Dora was born in Makurdi, Benue State in 1954. She hails from Anambra state.
