Keshi's Exit Would Be Too Risky - Okocha

Stephen Kesh

Former Nigeria captain Austine 'JayJay' Okocha believes the resignation of Stephen Keshi as Super Eagles head coach would be detrimental to the growth of the country's football.

The former Bolton Wanderer play-maker described Keshi, 52, as the "best indigenous coach Nigeria ever had" since the reign of football in the country.

Hence, Okocha stressed continuity, stating that the Delta-born coach deserves a long term job with the national team.

"I don't think his future is in doubt. [Keshi's] exit must be the craziest decision we will ever make as a nation. He will come out of this competition as a better coach though," Okocha said on SuperSport.

Okocha, who also played for Ligue 1 giants Paris Saint Germain, also stated that the national team will have a result-oriented future with Keshi in charge.

"The future looks bright for me. He has gone about the business the right way by going back to our local league to pick the next Keshi, Mikel and Omokachi in the future.

"He is planning well for the future for Nigeria. He is on the right track," he concluded.

The Super Eagles have to get their course right as soon as possible - as the AFCON 2015 qualification campaign would begin in September.
