Etisalat Nigeria Sacks Over 2000 Permanent Staffs

According to reports, major telecommunications company - Etisalat recently laid of two thousand permanent staff nationwide.

It is believed that the Telecom operator seeks to hire adhoc staff to run the operations as the company is said to be broke and can no longer retain the permanent work force.

Some sacked staff expressed surprise and disappointment over the development which has thrown them into the unemployment market.

“We were asked to leave and our cheques handed to us yesterday, it is unfortunate that I am again back
to the Job market” a source who does not want to be mentioned revealed.

“They want to recruit contract staff/new agents and they can no longer run the cost of paying those of us that are permanent staff, they claim.”

Another fired source bemoaned the suddenness of this awry incident; and she queried the existence of a law protecting the rights of labourers in the country.

“Do we even have labour laws in this country? How can you wake over night and ask people to go without months of notice, at least for us to be prepared for the worst," a female fired staff said.

The company also terminated their graduate trainee program for all fresh graduates.

Indeed, this is very pathetic! However, in every situation, there is always hope - even for these two thousand now-unemployed Nigerians.
