Jose Mourinho hits out at Madrid players

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has claimed that Real Madrid players were addicted to the mirror - as they cared more about their public appearance than about winning trophies.

The 51-year-old coach controversially left Santiago Bernabeu last Summer; and shortly after his departure, lots of criticisms were heaped on the Portuguese boss - prominent among his critics were Andres Iniesta, Hernandez Xavi, Sergio Ramos and Cristiano Ronaldo. Continue...

After returning to the Stamford for the second time, Mourinho's squad has enjoyed a good form in the Premier League - as the Blues currently lead the table.

Hence, the self acclaimed 'Special One' tacitly defends his poor rate of success at the Spanish capital by claiming the players were so keen on looking at the mirror rather than win trophies.

"Lots of times at Real Madrid, the players would be queuing in front of the mirror before the game while the referee waited for them in the tunnel," Mourinho told Esquire.

"But that’s how society is now. Young people care a lot about this: they are twenty something and I am 51 and if I want to work with kids I have to understand their world.

"I’m a manager since 2000, so I’m in my second generation of players.

"What I feel is that before, players were trying to make money during their career, be rich at the end of their career.

"But, in this moment, the people who surround them try to make them rich before they start their career."

Madrid was taken over by the former Paris Saint Germain boss Carlo Ancelotti; and the Galaticos are seriously on the heat as they presently dominate the Spanish La-Liga table.
